Wassail

Wassail is basically a warm rum punch flavored with fruit and spices.  This stuff is potent, tasty and a traditional beverage to serve up at Christmas and New Year's, especially if you live somewhere cold.

Ingredients:
(Yields 30 servings)

1 gallon apple cider
2 quarts cranberry juice
1 tbsp aromatic bitters
4 cinnamon sticks
1 tbsp white allspice
2 oranges, studded with cloves
2 cups (Appleton Estate V/X®) Rum

Combine all ingredients and warm slowly over low heat.  Serve warm, and if you can keep the punch on heat, even better (the smells of cinnamon and apple will float through your house).

Gingerbread Man

Who doesn’t love Gingerbread?

Europeans have been making Gingerbread for more than 1000 years, each country having it’s own special recipe. At some point folks in Northern Europe started making houses and people out of Gingerbread for holiday markets. The town of Bergen, Norway builds an entire Gingerbread town.

Thus was born the Gingerbread Man.

The popular cookie hopped the Atlantic with Europeans and has been with us ever since.

The famed Waldorf Astoria, in New York City created this liquid version you to enjoy this holiday season.

2. Chill your glass (the easiest way is to fill it with ice.)
3. Put lots of ice and all of the ingredients into a shaker.
4. Then shake hard for about 30 seconds to chill the liquid really well.
5. Wet the outside of your glass rim with sesame oil (just use your fingertip), and then roll the rim in sugar.
6. Double strain the mix into the glass.
7. Grate a little star anise onto the surface of the drink and drop the remainder into the drink to garnish.
